FRILISA – The language of beauty

Some stories begin with an idea. Ours began long before FRILISA was founded, with a love of beautiful fabrics, the pleasure of creating and the art of dressmaking.

Dressmaking has been part of our families for generations. It has shaped our appreciation of quality and our eye for the details that turn a beautiful dress into something special.

At the heart of FRILISA is Larissa Fromm. As head designer and the creative force behind the house, she shapes its creations through her ideas, her sense of beauty and her distinctive approach to design.

She first learned her craft within the family. Her mother, Polina Schneider, has a wealth of experience, which she has passed on to her daughter over many years. From her, Larissa learned not only the art of dressmaking, but also the patience, care and attention that fine craftsmanship requires.

Polina remains a valued member of our atelier team. Her knowledge, assured eye and skill continue to contribute to our creations. The connection between generations lives on in our daily work, in the ideas we exchange and in the pleasure of bringing time-honoured techniques together with new thinking.

Dressmaking is also a tradition in Viktor Fromm’s family. An old pair of tailor’s shears belonging to his great-grandparents has survived to this day. It is a personal keepsake and a quiet reminder of the value they placed on craftsmanship.

Larissa and Viktor are united by more than their families’ shared connection to the craft: they are husband and wife, with a shared love of FRILISA. Together, they have built an independent Berlin couture house where their different talents and experiences complement one another.

While Larissa leads the creative work, Viktor focuses on the house’s business direction, brand development and communication.

FRILISA brings together knowledge passed down through generations, a distinct approach to design and a shared wish to create something that lasts.

We believe that true elegance needs no grand gesture.

It is there in the way a person carries themselves, in their ease and in the confidence with which they express their own style.

That is why a dress at FRILISA never begins with a fixed idea of how a woman should look. It begins with the woman herself.

We want to know what matters to you, what you are drawn to and what you hope for in your dress. Sometimes these ideas are very clear. Sometimes they emerge in conversation, from a particular fabric, a colour or an idea we discover together.

We listen and take our time. A successful couture creation should do more than look beautiful. It should feel natural to wear and quietly bring out the personality of the woman wearing it.

We see our role as bringing a person’s individual beauty to light, rather than changing who they are.

Fashion is part of our lives far beyond the atelier.

We find inspiration in architecture and art, in travel, music and theatre, and in the people we meet. Sometimes it is a particular colour in a painting, the movement of a fabric or a silhouette that stays with us.

We follow developments in international fashion with interest, without feeling bound to follow every direction it takes.

Trends come and go. Style, personality and a person’s presence endure.

Our impressions become ideas of our own. We look for balanced proportions, expressive lines and materials whose full beauty often becomes apparent only in movement.

Not every dress needs to command attention. Some make their impression through restraint. Others can be bold, opulent and extraordinary.

What matters is that the design, the occasion and the wearer’s personality belong together.

A design is a promise. Craftsmanship brings it to life.

In our Berlin couture atelier, we create bespoke bridal gowns, evening dresses and stagewear, from the first sketch, the choice of fine fabrics and the development of the pattern through to the careful making and the final fitting.

Each creation develops through a dialogue between the design idea, the experience of our makers and the personal wishes of the woman who will wear it.

We pay close attention to details that may not be immediately visible: the line of a seam, the fall of a fabric, the finish of an edge or the balance between a beautiful silhouette and freedom of movement.

Sometimes a small adjustment gives a design the lightness we are looking for. Sometimes it takes several fittings for everything to come together as we imagined.

This is work we particularly value. It calls for experience, attention and a willingness to take even the smallest details seriously.

For us, traditional dressmaking and contemporary design belong together. Their interplay gives a bespoke couture creation its particular quality.

La Promesse – Bridal couture

La Promesse is dedicated to bridal couture. We design bespoke wedding dresses for women who want to feel entirely themselves on their wedding day.

From clean, understated silhouettes to elaborate creations in silk, lace and delicately embroidered fabrics, every dress is designed to bring together beauty, comfort and a personal touch.

Nocturne – Evening and stagewear

Nocturne is our world of evening and stagewear.

Here we create bespoke evening dresses and stage pieces for performances, concerts, premieres, galas and celebrations.

We consider both the impression a dress should make and the practical demands of the occasion: movement, lighting, atmosphere and the personality of the woman wearing it.

Both couture lines share our pleasure in design and our commitment to making original creations in Berlin with care and attention to detail.

Larissa Fromm – The creative heart of the house

Larissa is FRILISA’s head designer and its heart. She holds a Diplom in fashion design and studied at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).

Her passion lies in designing, in the interplay of fabric and form, and in the particular challenge of turning an idea into something unique.

Her distinctive vision shapes the house’s collections, and she guides each bespoke couture creation from its first idea to completion.

Polina Schneider – Experience passed on

Polina Schneider belongs to the generation whose knowledge and skills laid the foundations for Larissa’s development as a dressmaker.

An experienced master pattern cutter, she has shared her knowledge with her daughter over many years. She remains part of the FRILISA atelier, bringing her experience to their work together.

Her assured craftsmanship, care and trained eye are a valued part of our house.

Viktor Fromm – Shaping the house’s future

As Larissa’s husband and her partner in running FRILISA, Viktor guides the business and strategic development of the couture house.

He focuses on its long-term direction, its brand identity and the work of sharing the atelier’s designs and craftsmanship with the wider world.

His own family’s connection to dressmaking gives this role a personal significance, too.

What unites us is the pleasure of creating something lasting together, with respect for the craft, openness to new ideas and a clear sense of the future of our house.

Some dresses stay with us for a lifetime.

Perhaps because we wore them on our wedding day. At a concert, a premiere or a special evening. Or perhaps simply because we felt particularly comfortable and entirely ourselves in them.

These moments give our work its meaning.

We love the moment an idea first takes shape. The feel of a beautiful fabric between our fingers. The anticipation before a fitting. And, above all, the joy of seeing a client look in the mirror and realise that her dress has become exactly what she hoped for.

Larissa Fromm once put this feeling into words:

For us, these words capture something essential: beauty can be a source of joy. It can move us, surprise us and become part of a treasured memory.

Through our work, we hope to play a small part in that.
